Mr. Simms currently serves as the Distinguished Architect, Global Information Security Strategist for Walmart. He is responsible for delivering an enterprise information security strategy and roadmap for the products and technologies that are used in Information and Cyber Security. It is critical that Walmart develop a robust information security technology strategy that will meet the needs of our technology and business partners while providing the security that must be in place to be the most trusted retailer. Gary will work with the functional areas to consolidate and drive our long-term vision. He will build out this robust strategy with attention to risk and desired business outcomes.

Mr. Simms has over twenty years of experience in senior leadership roles managing and motivating people, leading cross functional and diverse teams and executing strategic planning initiatives. He also brings a wealth of knowledge in Technology Strategy and Business alignment as well as multiple and varied aspects of IT. He attributes his leadership skills to his 15 years of service in the U.S. Army where he achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) for Honorable and Distinguished Service.   

Mr. Simms is a native of Washington, DC and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management from Columbia Union College. He completed the Management Strategies Program, Carnegie Mellon (PA) February 2012. He completed his CIO Certification at Carnegie Mellon in April of 2016 and his Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) certification in February 2019. 

Mr. Simms is a strong advocate for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) and has work relentlessly in the community to develop such programs as “Introduce a Girl to STEAM Day” which has been held for the past five years and has impacted over 2000 female students. 

He holds current memberships in the IT Senior Management Forum (ITSMF) where he is a past member of the Board of Directors. He is a member of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) and the Society for Information Management (SIM). He holds certifications from Carnegie Mellon for Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Chief Information Security Officer (CSIO)
